Description

This course is an introduction to the economics of creative industries with a special emphasis on the nature and importance of innovation dynamics in those industries. It will explain their growing importance while discussing the difficult issues of defining the perimeter of those sectors in particular as regards statistics. Some of the main characteristics of those sectors will be explored from the point of view of the economic analysis and of the management and business strategy. An analysis of public policies towards creative industries will also be proposed in relation with policies fostering innovation. Many examples are taken from the music industry, and students have the opportunity to study other sectors as well.

Compétences visées

Capacity of analyzing the specificities of industries from the point of view of economic analysis combined with the one of more management oriented approach
Capacity of understanding the role of the innovation dynamic in the evolution of industrial structures and competition
Awareness of many economic aspects of a large variety of fast growing sectors and of the behaviour of the main players of those sectors (from business models to state policies)
Basic to advanced mastery level of various tools and concepts such as business models design and analysis, value chain, sectoral analysis …
Capacity to work in team, to interact with other in various contexts incl. debate, pitch, role playing games etc
